
Privacy Policy
eMpowered Wellness: Nurse Coach & Co. company is committed to complying with the laws and regulations concerning the collection, use, disclosure and protection of personal and health information (“PHI”). The collection, use, disclosure and retention of PHI is governed by the provisions of the Health Information Act (“HIA”) as well as standards outlined by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (“CRNA”). The company's privacy policy and operating procedures have been developed in compliance with the HIA to enable effective client care and service delivery, while protecting their privacy.
The policy describes requirements for compliance with the HIA, Alberta Electronic Health Record Regulation, Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), as well as the Nursing Practice Standards outlined by the CRNA where the HIA does not apply. The policy references reporting requirements related to privacy incidents to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (“OIPC”) in compliance with the HIA and CRNA’s Privacy and Management of Health Information Standards. It describes the requirements for compliance with legislation through specific practices and established safeguards which apply to all custodians of PHI, including, but not limited to, employees, volunteers, contractors/subcontractors, contingent workers, temporary workers, or other persons (the “Workforce”) who have access to PHI and which must abide by during all business activities with business partners, healthcare providers, and client interactions, including, but not limited to, communications occurring in person, by phone, video/teleconferencing, fax, email or social media platforms. Furthermore, Registered Nurse(s) included in the Workforce of eMpowered Wellness: Nurse Coach & Co. adhere to the CRNA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, including the fundamental responsibility to protect client privacy. The policy applies to all PHI regardless of format collected, retained and used for the provision of services.
